Notes on Daniel's Seventy Sevens and the Translation Differences - A Non-Dispensationlist View-A Quick Reference

Notes on Daniel's Seventy Sevens and the Translation Differences - A Non-Dispensationlist View-A Quick Reference

***The Most Holy/Holy Place-The Temple or the Holy of Holies was never anointed in the Bible. The translations here are very tricky; however, if we remember from scripture, Jesus called himself a Temple (naos-Spiritual Sanctuary) in John 2:19. It makes sense that Jesus is a Temple and a person simultaneously***.

***Jesus is the 77th generation in Luke 3***

***Jesus’ ministry was 3.5 years. He died in the middle of Daniel’s last “seven”. The last 3.5 was the apostles' ministry towards the Jews. After that, the Gentiles were the focus.

***Seventy Sevens- Play a role in Genesis 4:23- mercy for Cain and Lamech***

***Daniel 9 is about perfect forgiveness and the Jubilee of all Jubilees because it connects to Jesus, not a future antichrist. See Matthew 18:21-22 below***

Matthew 18:21-22 King James Version (KJV)

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

***Also see Isaiah 53:10-12 for the “MANY”***
***Jesus put an end to sacrifice and offering did it on the cross spiritually, but it physically stopped when the Temple was destroyed finally.***
***The typical Hebrew words for covenant are Karat and Beriyth (to cut a covenant). Instead, in verse 27, the Hebrew word is Gabar is placed before Beriyth, which means strength or prevailing. This does not fit the storyline that a future Antichrist will come to make a seven year peace treaty with Israel and then break it off at the 3.5 year mark. This covenant is unbreakable according to the Hebrew. Check your Blue Letter Bible to confirm this.

***Gabriel is the angel (name meaning Strength of God) that is noted in Daniel 9 comes from the Hebrew word Gabar-Prevailing. Gabriel is also the same angel that went to Mary to tell her that she is going to be the mother of Jesus, the Messiah.
  • The first 7 Sevens = Artaxerxes’s Commission to Ezra- 458 BC (Ezra 7:11-26, Isaiah 44:28, Isaiah 45:13).

  • The next 62 Sevens=Return to rebuild Israel while facing opposition (Nehemiah 4, Ezra 4)

  • The last period of Seven = On the middle of this seven period (3.5th mark) Jesus gets crucified and gets cut off but not by HIMSELF-Isaiah 53:8.

  • The last 3.5 years of the Seven= Stephen's stoning in 34AD. The apostles witnessing to the Jews before putting their full attention to the Gentiles. Once the last 3.5 years is done, the Gentiles start getting preached heavily by the Apostle Paul and the new bride (the Church of Elect Jews and Gentiles) is introduced after the death of National Israel in 70AD. Acts 7:54-60,  8:1-40.
***If you are not convinced on my analysis on these translations, choose another translation and you will see that the chiasm pattern in the text, reveals that “THE HE” in verse 27 is Jesus, not a future Antichrist***.

Daniel 9:24-27 New International Version (NIV)
24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.
25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.
26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.
27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him

Daniel 9:24-27 King James Version (KJV)
24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate

Daniel 9:24-27 English Standard Version (ESV)
24 “Seventy weeks[a] are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.[b]
25 Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again[c] with squares and moat, but in a troubled time.
26 And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its[d] end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed
.27 And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week,[e] and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.”

Daniel 9:24-27 MODIFIED IDEAL VERSION
24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy ONE.
25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah the Prince comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.
26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Messiah will be cut off, but not for himself. The PEOPLE (THE JEWS)  of the prince (JESUS) that shall come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.
27 He (JESUS) will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations (WHEN THE PEAK OF ABOMINATIONS REACH ITS BREAKING POINT) shall come ONE who makes desolate (TITUS VESPASIAN/ROMAN ARMIES), until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator (JERUSALEM/TEMPLE/JEWS).”
