Parallels of Song of Solomon (Songs) & The Gospel of John
Additional Notes why the Song of Solomon should be taken figuratively
- Nowhere in Scripture says that Solomon was a Shepherd turned King. I believe this is a picture of Jesus as the Greater Solomon. Matthew 12:42- The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
- The Song of Solomon is also called the Song of Songs. He wrote 1005 songs, yet this one stood out from all of them (1 Kings 4:32 - He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005).
- We see the same type of phrasing (Song of Songs) in the Bible- The Holy of Holies, The Vanity of Vanities,The King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords.
- As King, Solomon would not be ok with his beloved getting beat up with no consequences to the watchmen (Song of Solomon 5:7 The watchmen found me as they went about in the city; they beat me, they bruised me, they took away my veil, those watchmen of the walls).
- Lots of women are pursuing Solomon and the Shulamite is ok with this. There is a switch between plural and singular pronouns during their conversations.
- The Shulamite sleeps, there is not one mention of King Solomon sleeping.
- King Solomon would not be ok with his brother in laws mistreating his girlfriend/wife.
- Solomon's name means "The Man of Peace" and The Shulamite's name means "The Woman of Peace." The Church has peace now in Christ.
- The Song of Songs is the Song of Redemption and the New Covenant. We see other places in Scripture where it is mentioned. The Lord serenades us and we sing the song back as a form of worship See below.
- Zephaniah 3:17- The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
- Revelation 14:3 And they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
- Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,
