Satan as the Prince of the Air

Satan as the Prince of the Air

The phrase "The Prince of the Power of the Air" has been riddled with multiple interpretations. Below,  I will explain my conclusions on the cryptic verse.

Ephesians 2:2 English Standard Version 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the AIR, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience

1 Thessalonians 4:17 English Standard Version 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the AIR, and so we will always be with the Lord.

If taken literal, this would mean Satan is in Heaven with believers. Obviously, this is not true.
To be "in the air" is figurative language to be on a mountain/clouds. See Exodus 19 and 24. What I believe this passage is saying is that Satan is the ruler of the Old Covenant age. The hills and mountains were used interchangeably in the Old Testament narratives. The hills were known for idol worship. See Jeremiah 2:20, Isaiah 57:7, Ezekiel 18:6.

With these details in mind, Satan is the ruler of a sacred mountain- the Temple Mount. The Jewish Temple has become the ultimate idol of gold and silver for the Jewish people. Satan has used the Mosaic Law as a second witness against the Jews and Christians in order to enslave them.

How did Satan acquired this power? Like Jacob with Esau, Satan tricked Adam and Eve for their inheritance: Dominionship of Heaven and Earth. He made them into his slaves for receiving his wisdom. See Revelation 2:24; Roman 6:16.

This is true because the stakes were high for Christ in the wilderness. Satan showed him a vision of the Kingdoms of the Greco-Roman world-the true inheritance. If it wasn't true, the threat would have been pointless. Critics would say God wouldn't waste his time making a wager with Satan. However, we can see a similar wager in the Book of Job between God and Satan, so this is not farfetch.
