The 7 Days of Creation Chart

The 7 Days of Creation Chart

Around 66 million years ago, a cataclysmic asteroid impact near modern-day Chicxulub, Mexico, triggered one of Earth’s most devastating mass extinctions, wiping out nearly three-quarters of all species, including the non-avian dinosaurs. In the wake of fiery destruction, toxic darkness, and global climate collapse, the planet underwent a slow but profound renewal—purifying skies and seas, enriching soils, restoring celestial order, and repopulating its waters, lands, and skies. This sequence of recovery parallels the biblical creation days, reframed not as the origin of the physical world, but as God’s redemptive ordering of a devastated Earth—culminating in the rise of humanity, the establishment of divine rest and rule, and the covenantal calling of Adam and Eve from among an already diverse human family.

Day 0 – Chicxulub Impact: The Catalyst of Mass Extinction

Around 66 million years ago, a 10-kilometer-wide asteroid struck Earth near modern-day Chicxulub, Mexico. The impact vaporized sulfate-rich rocks, injecting vast quantities of sulfur aerosols into the atmosphere. These sulfates reacted with water vapor, forming sulfuric acid droplets that caused acid rain on a global scale. Nitrogen oxides from atmospheric heating added nitric acid, further harming vegetation and acidifying freshwater systems. The ecological collapse that followed wiped out nearly 75% of all species, including the non-avian dinosaurs.

***The Earth (Land) was without form, and void…

Day 1 – Global Wildfires, Darkness, and Divine Light

As ejecta rained back through the atmosphere, it ignited planet-wide wildfires, releasing soot and ash that darkened the skies, blocked sunlight, and triggered an "impact winter." Photosynthesis halted, temperatures plunged, and food chains collapsed. The skies were filled with harmful gases like carbon monoxide, methane, and hydrogen cyanide.

***And God said, “Let there be light.” Despite the atmospheric gloom, God’s light broke through the darkness—symbolizing hope, order, and the persistence of life amid chaos.

Day 2 – Atmospheric and Oceanic Purification

As weeks turned into months, dust and aerosols settled, allowing sunlight to gradually return. The atmosphere began to stabilize, and greenhouse gases like CO₂ and CH₄ initiated a long-term warming trend. Acidified oceans and lakes began to rebuffer, and carbon cycles resumed, aided by physical and biological processes.

***God purified the atmosphere and the sea—restoring transparency to the skies and balance to the waters, allowing marine life to slowly rebound and climate patterns to reset.

Day 3 – Soil Enrichment and Botanical Renewal

Ash layers and ejecta enriched the Earth's soil with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, creating fertile conditions for new vegetation. Angiosperms (flowering plants) flourished, replacing gymnosperms as dominant flora. These plants adapted to the post-impact climate with rapid life cycles and diverse pollination strategies.

***God purified the soil of the land for vegetation—preparing it to receive new life. Plant life regenerated the biosphere, laid the foundation for future animal life, and reshaped ecosystems with denser, dynamic forests.

Day 4 – Celestial Patterns and Agricultural Order

With the atmosphere now clear, celestial cycles—day and night, lunar phases, seasons, and equinoxes—became visible and consistent. These cycles were eventually used by humans for agriculture, timekeeping, religious festivals, and navigation.

***God used the sun, moon, and stars to mark time, seasons, and sacred rhythms—structuring creation with natural order and preparing the way for civilization.

Day 5 – Recolonization of Water and Sky

Marine life rebounded with the diversification of teleost fishes, cephalopods, and other aquatic species. In the skies, surviving avian dinosaurs (birds) radiated into new ecological niches. Over time, birds and fish became abundant in fertile regions like Mesopotamia, eventually supporting early human societies.

***God filled the seas with fish and the skies with birds—rebuilding the food web and restoring ecosystems in the regions where future covenantal history would unfold.

Day 6 – Human Diversification and Non-Covenantal Populations

During this time, multiple human species emerged, including Homo sapiens, Neanderthals, and Denisovans. These distinct hominin groups interbred to some degree and spread across Africa, Asia, and Europe. They created tools, art, and culture, but were not yet participants in the biblical covenant narrative. These people are given the task to hunt and fish.

***God created non-covenant humanity—diverse in form and culture. They bore His image in function, yet awaited the moment when God would initiate a unique relational purpose through covenant.

Day 7 – God’s Rest and Rule

God ceased direct acts of creation, entering into a state of divine sabbath—not inactivity, but kingship. Creation now operated under the natural laws and cycles He ordained. The cosmos became His temple, and He ruled from rest.

***God rested from direct creation and began His sovereign rule, allowing creation to unfold and develop, while preparing a unique place and people for His covenantal mission.

Day 8 – Covenant Humanity: The Formation of Adam and Eve

From the midst of the broader human population, God formed Adam and Eve (indirect creation), not as the first biological humans, but as the first covenantal humans—chosen, appointed, and given a divine commission. This took place during God’s rest, showing that covenantal relationship is birthed out of divine grace, not merely natural process. These people are given the task to hunt and fish.

***God used creation to birth out Adam and Eve during His rest—marking the beginning of redemptive history within an already living, populated Earth.
