Job’s Daughters and the New Covenant

Job’s Daughters and the New Covenant
·         In the last chapter of Job, we see that his daughters are given an inheritance. This was unheard of in this Jewish Patriarchal Culture. This can be compared to the Gentiles now be included among Jews in the New Covenant. The Gentiles are now inheritors in the New Covenant through Christ.

·         In the beginning of the story, Job’s children were nameless. In the last chapter, we get names. Being nameless would symbolize being dead in sin and having a new name would indicate new life in righteousness.

·         In the last chapter of Job, we see that he has 7 new sons and 3 new daughters (now with mentioned names). A “resurrected” Job extended his inheritance to his new daughters/family. The total number is 10, which represents Completion. This means the whole family reaps the benefits of their father. This is exactly how the sacrifice of Christ functions. All his Elect/Family benefits from his sacrifice/blessings. His new family are like Christ's First Fruits.

·         Through disaster Job brought forth new family members just like Christ’s death brought forth new family members for the New Covenant. Also, In the beginning of Job, we find out that he possessed 7,000 sheep, 3000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 female donkeys. The total sum is 11,000. In the end of the Book (Chapter 42), Job possesses 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. The new total sum is 22,000. This is a double portion. In the New Covenant, we get a double portion as believers.

Isaiah 61:4-11 4 They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations. 5 Strangers shall stand and tend your flocks; foreigners shall be your plowmen and vinedressers; 6 but you shall be called the priests of the Lord; they shall speak of you as the ministers of our God; you shall eat the wealth of the nations, and in their glory you shall boast. 7 Instead of your shame there shall be A DOUBLE PORTION; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy. 8 For I the Lord love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 Their offspring shall be known among the nations, and their descendants in the midst of the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are an offspring the Lord has blessed. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.

Job’s daughters’ names mean: The Gentleness and Richness of Christ, (Cassia) Fragrance of Christ, and the Beauty of Christ. This is our new identity in Christ. The Father sees us as pure before His eyes because of Christ’s sacrifice. The Holy Spirit fills us and makes us a sweet aroma. We are beautiful from the inside-out. This is the richness and abundance of the Church. See Psalm 45:8 and Ephesians 5:25-27.

·         The last chapter of Job is about a new covenant, new blessings, new names, and new identity.
