Additional Notes why the Song of Solomon should be taken figuratively Nowhere in Scripture says that Solomon was a Shepherd turned King. I believe this is a picture of Jesus as the Greater Solomon.  Matthew 12:42- The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. The Song of Solomon is also called the Song of Songs. He wrote 1005 songs, yet this one stood out from all of them (1 Kings 4:32 - He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005 ).  We see the same type of phrasing (Song of Songs) in the Bible- The Holy of Holies, The Vanity of Vanities,The King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords.
