Jesus and Samson


Samson
  •       Jesus is what Samson in Judges was not; what was lacking in Samson was found perfected in Christ.
  •         Samson fought the Lord's enemies single-handed without an army to aid him.
  •         Just like Christ, Samson stretched out his arms and died to defeat the enemies of God. Samson sacrificed himself bringing down the pillars on the enemy, leaving the temple in ruins. 
  •         Jesus is the true and better Samson because he yielded his life to crush his enemies and save God's people not as an atonement for his mistakes, but for the sins of others.
  •          Samson gave his life and saved his people by destroying his enemies; Jesus gave his life and saved his people by saving his enemies and making them a part of his people.
  •          Jesus sacrificed himself, bringing down the pillars of death on the Enemy, but rebuilt that temple in 3 days giving us the hope of eternal life. Jesus fought against the only true enemies that can kill us: sin and death.
  •          Just like Christ, Samson defeated his enemies to claim his bride
  •          Jesus protected his marriages with his bride whereas Samson used his first marriage. 
  •          His bride was chosen from among his enemies, and he was betrayed by her, but he then redeemed her.
  •          Jesus and Samson had similar miraculous, birth narratives including an angel announcing that they would both be deliverers for Israel respectively.
  •          In spite of Samson’s disobedience and latter obedience, God showed that he could bring deliverance/salvation through one man.
  •          Jesus was faithful in all that he did, whereas Samson acted from impulse, anger, and seduction
  •          Just like Jesus, Samson pulling up the gates of Gaza prefigured the gates of hell/death being no defense against the church
  •          Just like Samson tears down the pagan temple, Jesus breaks down the idols in our hearts.
  •          They both used donkeys in their path to victory (in different ways)
  •          Both Jesus and Samson were feared by the Israelites that their actions will lead to the destruction of the nation.
  •          Both Jesus and Samson were betrayed and handed over to the enemies of God by his own people.
  •          Both Jesus and Samson were captured and tortured by the enemies of God.
  •          Both Jesus and Samson brought salvation to God's people through their death.
  •          Both Jesus and Samson accomplished their greatest feat with their dying breath.
  •          Just like Jesus defeats the devil, Samson break and destroys the roaring Lion with his bare hands
  •          The wicked men of Gaza thought they had Samson imprisoned but God gave him victory by giving him strength.
  •          The Devil thought he had Jesus imprisoned in the grave, trapped by the sting of Death. But Jesus rolled the stone away, rose from the grave, and shattered the bars of Death so that his church can now say, "death is now swallowed up in victory... where o death is your sting?

Revelation 12 V1-2: We see the same imagery of Joseph’s dream here in Genesis 37:9-11. Israel is described as the Daughter of Zion-a dying mother; specifically, Rachel who died tragically during pregnancy.
