Genesis 6 Revisited Notes

       Genesis 6 Revisited Notes

This chapter focuses on the Pre-Adamic people expanding throughout the world/region. The Sons of God are the Sethites based on the alternate translation of Genesis 4:26. Like Adam and Eve, the Sethites lusted after the forbidden fruit- The attractive Pre-Adamic women.  It appears this was sinful because there was little to no consultation between Adam, Eve, and God in the arrangement of the marital union. See Judges 14:3, Genesis 24:3,24:40, 26:35, 27:46, 28:9, 36:2, Judges 21:23. This forbidden intermarriage resulted in the Spirit of God to not contend or wrestle with Covenant Mankind forever. God proclaimed that judgment will occur in 120 years.

The Nephilim is Adam and Eve. Nephilim means Fallen Ones. This can also be translated as the Cast Out Ones. Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden (The Symbolic Promise Land) then cast out of the Land of Eden (Symbolic Wilderness). The statement about "before" and "after" has nothing to do with the Flood just BEFORE and AFTER Adam and Eve entered the Land of Eden. In regards to the Nephilim in the Book of Numbers, the Giants in that context are going to be the ones who are were going to be cast out of the Promise Land. Just like the Cainites, the Sethites decided to intermarry the Pre-Adamic race. The Sethites wanted to be liked the Men of the Name/Legacy builders: Cainites- Jubal, Jabal, Tubal-Cain, and Naamah. This is why the names in Genesis 4 and 5 are very similar. Perhaps, this led to many bloodbaths between the two lines, which God decided to wipe out both parties. A possible reason why God wanted to destroy the animals of the land was that they might have been used for idolatrous ceremonies and worship- Leviticus 20:15-16. Noah found favor in God's eyes. He is the second person to walk with God. The first person is Enoch. He had three sons at age 500. A number similar to the Jubilee number 50. At this stage, both Sethites and Cainites have reached a point of no return with God. When it refers to all flesh, it's talking about Covenant mankind, not all of humanity. It's been speculated that the wood used on the ark is a similar type of wood used at Jesus' crucifixion, but unfortunately, that is mere speculation.  The Hebrew word for pitch is kopher, which is the same word used for Atonement/covering. The pitch served as a waterproof glue. The ark's dimensions are multiples of 3s and 5s. This represents the Trinity/New life and Grace respectively. The side door of the ark is similar to the event when Christ was stabbed by a spear on his side. Likewise, his death has become a doorway to salvation. The ark is designed in three decks: lower, second, and third. This is also how God separated the world, Mt Sinai, Tabernacle, Temple: Outer area, Inner Area, and Most Holy Area where the mediator can only visit God based on an appointed schedule. The devastation of the regional flood is described covering the barren lands of Adam and Cain who were both cursed in Genesis 3 and 4. God makes a covenant with Noah and his family. More instructions are given about the animals (two of every animal) and food preservation. Noah is obedient in these commandments.
