Genesis 9 Revisited Notes

 Genesis 9 Revisited Notes

The dominion mandate is mentioned again.  This is a confirmation of the Edenic/Adamic covenant, which suggests both meat, vegetables, and fruits were part of that ancient people's diet. The new exception is that the blood of the animals should not be digested. Noah is declared judge over the new creation for all crimes including murder. The same covenant is mentioned from Genesis 6:18. This is not a different covenant. This applies only to the animals in the ark. The Messianic Line will never be destroyed alongside the Line of the Serpent. This is not first appearing of a rainbow. This is God giving it a covenantal purpose. He is hanging his war bow up (Psalm 7:12,21:12,64:7).

The next section acknowledges how Noah's sons are the new seeds of covenant humanity, not humanity in general. They are a New Heavens/New Earth Order. Noah becomes the first covenant man to bring rest/comfort (making wine) to the his family and Land after its curse. It was impossible for Adam and Cain to grow their own garden-vineyard. Their hard work had no return. Noah's garden-vineyard was able to grow abundantly. Because of this, Noah was able to make and drink wine, which triggered a prophetic vision/trance (Tardemah sleep) in his tent. Many traditionalists have attributed this act to drunkenness. However, this is not correct because the same Hebrew word sakar was used for the dinner banquet between Joseph and his brothers in Genesis 43:34 and the Song of Solomon 5:1. No act of drunkenness was described at those events. It can only be drunken in the context of judgment. Otherwise, the word can be translated as merry or abundantly. Noah's vision is very similar to Adam-Genesis 2, Abraham-Genesis 15, and King Saul's trance like state- 1 Samuel 19. This literary pattern is related to the establishment of a covenant. Noah was not laying in the nude in his tent. The King James Version of 9:21 will bring some clarity to this event. In this translation, we can come to the conclusion that Ham removed Noah's outer garment (this may be part of the covering of the ark in Genesis 8:13 perhaps) during his vision. Ham saw his father in his common clothes similar to David in 2 Samuel 6:14-23. He entered his Father's tent unauthorized like how one would enter the Holy of Holies in a dishonorable way. Even in the Holy of Holies, God was "clothed" by the smoke of the golden censer. It's possible that Ham stated to his brothers that Noah was on the verge of dead/sick/comatose and changed the division of the inheritances. It is alleged that Ham received the double portion blessing instead of Shem. Due to this new revelation, the brothers are unable to accept this new truth, so they cover their Father with a robe in order to uphold his authority. It's unknown if this is the same robe or another. Either way it doesn't change the symbolism. The brothers did not look at Noah while he was not wearing his garments of authority. This is somewhat similar to how the Levites walked backwards in order to setup the Tabernacle's Holy of Holies. Noah then wakes up from his vision and presents the destinies of his children (similar to Jacob and his sons in Genesis 49). Canaan is cursed by Noah. Just like Ham shamed his father, Canaan will shame his father. He will be a servant of servants. This fulfillment did not come true in a literal sense. Interestingly, when the Hebrews-the Line of Shem- came to take over the Promise Land they did not killed the Canaanites. Instead, they try to make a peace treaty with them, which resulted in the Hebrews falling into idolatry. In fact, the Hebrews were constantly under the yoke of slavery by several Gentile countries. The true fulfillment came to fruition in 70AD when the Ethnic Jews became the Spiritual Gentiles. In contrast, the Ethnic Gentiles became the Spiritual Jews. The new, Spiritual Jews had dominion and power over the new, unbelieving Gentile nations. In regards to the blessings, Japhaeth will be blessed under the household of Shem. They will be a welcomed guest to hearing the teachings of the Lord. They will be become Gentile converts. The chapter concludes with Noah dying 50 years shorter of 1,000. The number 50 represents the Jubilee. Remember, Adam's was 70 years shorter. 70 can mean judgment or atonement depending on its context.
