Problems with the 1948 Regathering of Israel

The Land Promises

Genesis 15:18-20- 18 On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To YOUR OFFSPRING (NOT ABRAM/ABRAHAM)I givethis land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,19 the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.” NOTE: Abraham did not receive any of the land; only his offspring Christ. Through Christ we received this inheritance (See Acts 7:5-7).

Acts 7:5-7-5Yet he (God) gave him (Abraham)no inheritance in it, not even a foot’s length, but promised to give it to him as a possession and to his offspring after him, though he had no child. 6 And God spoke to this effect—that his offspring would be sojourners in a land belonging to others, who would enslave them and afflict them four hundred years. 7 ‘But I will judge the nation that they serve,’ said God, ‘and after that they shall come out and worship me in this place.’NOTE: Abraham did not receive any of the land; only his offspring Christ. Through Christ we received this inheritance (See Genesis 15).

Acts 13:19-20 19And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. 20All this took about 450 years. And after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet

Romans 4:13-17 13 For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would BE HEIR OF THE WORLD (NOT SIMPLY CANAAN)did not come through the lawbut through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.16 That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17 as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.

Galatians 3:29 29 Andif you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.

Galatians 4:28 28 Now YOU, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.

Genesis 17:88And I will give to you and to your offspring AFTER you the land of your sojournings, ALL the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”NOTE: If this was taken strictly literal, this means that the Jews were promised only the land of Canaan, which isn’t the case. God promised them to be heirs of the world (See Romans 4:13Hebrews 11:9-10, Hebrews11:13-16, and 2 Pet 3:13).

Exodus 23:3131 And I will set your border from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates, for I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

Joshua 23:14-15 14 “And now I am about to go the way of ALL the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that NOT ONE WORD HAS FAILED of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed. 15 But just as all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you have been fulfilled for you, so the Lord will bring upon you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from OFF THIS GOOD LAND that the Lord your God has given you,

Joshua 24:28 28 So Joshua sent the people away, every man to his inheritance.

Joshua 21:43-45, And the LORD gave unto Israel ALL the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein. And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to ALL that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered ALL their enemies into their hand. There failed not ought of ANY good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of IsraelALL CAME TO PASS.

1 Kings 8:56-Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to ALL that he promisedthere hath NOT FAILED ONE WORD of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
Deuteronomy 1:7- 7 Turn and take your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites and to all their neighbors in the Arabah, in the hill country and in the lowland and in the Negeb and by the seacoast, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

Deuteronomy 11:24-24Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours. Your territory shall be from the wilderness to the Lebanon and from the River, the river Euphrates, to the western sea.

Deuteronomy 19:7-9-7 Therefore I command you, You shall set apart three cities. 8 And if the Lord your God enlarges your territory, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you ALL the land that he promised to give to your fathers9 provided you are careful to keep all this commandment, which I command you today, by loving the Lord your God and by walking ever in his ways—then you shall add three other cities to these three. NOTE: The establishment of the Cities of Refuge(Kadesh, Shechem, Hebron, Bezer, Ramoth, and Golan) shows that the land promise was successfully fulfilled.

Nehemiah 9:8-You found his heart faithful before you, and made with him the covenant to give to his offspring the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite. And you have kept your promise, for you are righteous.

2 Samuel 8:3-3 David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates.(See Genesis 15:18).

1 Kings 4:21 21 Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt. They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.(See Genesis 15:18).

2 Chronicles 9:26 26And he ruled over all the kings from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt.

Jeremiah 11:5- 5“...that I may confirm the oath that I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day.” Then I answered, “So be it, Lord.”

1 Samuel 14:47-48- 47 When Saul had taken the kingship over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, against the Ammonites, against Edom, against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned he routed them. 48 And he did valiantly and struck the Amalekites and delivered Israel out of the hands of those who plundered them.

1 Chronicles 18:3-3 David also defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah-Hamath, as he went to set up his monument at the river Euphrates.

2 Samuel 7:10-13 10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make YOU (into) a house.12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring (CHRIST)after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house (THE CHURCH) for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

1 Kings 4:21 21 Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt. They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

1 Kings 8:65 65 So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from Lebo-hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the Lord our God, seven days.

2 Kings 14:25 25 He restored the border of Israel from Lebo-hamath as far as the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.

Acts 3:25-26 25You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring (ISSAC/CHRIST)shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ 26God, having raised up his servant (CHRIST), sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.”

Acts 13:32-33- 32 And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, 33 this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm,“‘You are my Son,today I have begotten you.’

Acts 13:38 38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man (CHRIST) forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

Galatians 3:8-9 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles BY FAITH, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In YOU (ABRAHAM/CHRIST) shall all the nations be blessed.” 9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
Galatians 3:18 18 For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

Hebrews 11:8-19 8By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. 11By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore. 13These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they had been thinking of THAT LAND from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16BUT AS IT IS, THEY DESIRE A BETTER COUNTRY, that is, A HEAVENLY ONE. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.17By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, 18 of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” 19 He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.

2 Corinthians 1:20- 20 For ALL the promises of God find their Yes IN HIM (CHRIST). That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

***Lastly, the following verses below show the transition from the Old Testament’s types and shadows to the true spiritual reality found in Christ in the New Testament. Joshua represented the Old Covenant and the Promised Land while Christ represents the New Covenant and the New Heavens and New Earth. We don’t just receive a piece of land. We receive the new world. ***

Deuteronomy 1:34-35
Psalm 95:11
Hebrews 4:3
34 “And the Lord heard your words and was angered, and he swore, 35 ‘Not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land that I swore to give to your fathers,
11 Therefore I swore in my wrath, “They shall not enter my REST.”
3 For we who have believed enter that REST, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my REST,’” although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.

In conclusion, scripture is clear that Israel did occupy ALL of the Promise Land.Israel received all of the land promised to Abraham during the time of Joshua.Israel’s kings throughout the ages were responsible for all of the land. The land promise has been fulfilled. There is no more land promises left for the nation of Israel. The 1948 event ofIsrael becoming a nation has nothing to do with Bible prophecy. How can a nation that is almost made up entirely of those who have rejected Christ, who is the singular offspring of Abraham to whom the promises of the Abrahamic covenant were made (Galatians 3:16), lay claim to a geographical region on the basis of the Abrahamic covenant? How can those who are NOT heirs of Abraham make ANY claim of “land”/promises if they are not united in Christ (Galatians 3:29)? If anything, the 1948 event is viewed as the gathering of God’s elect. Salvation is no longer bound to ethnic Israel, but to Spiritual Israel who is composed of every nation, tribe, people and language.
