The Whore of Babylon is 1st Century Israel
The Whore of Babylon is a City
Revelation 17:18 18 And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the
kings of the earth.”
Revelation 18:10 10 They will stand far off, in fear of her
torment, and say,“Alas! Alas! You great city, you mighty city,
Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come.”
Revelation 18:16 16“Alas, alas, for the great
citythat was clothed in fine linen,in purple and scarlet, adorned
with gold, with jewels, and with pearls!
Revelation 18:18 18 and cried out as they saw the smoke of
her burning,“What city was like the great city?”
Revelation 18:19 19 And they threw dust on their heads as
they wept and mourned, crying out,“Alas, alas, for the great city where
all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in a single hour she has
been laid waste.
Revelation 18:21 21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like
a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,“So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with
violence,and will be found no more;
Revelation 14:8 8 Another angel, a second, followed, saying,
“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine
of the passion of her sexual immorality.”
Revelation 16:19 19 The great city
was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God
remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury
of his wrath.
Revelation 17:18 18 And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the
kings of the earth.”
Revelation 18:21 21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like
a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,“So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with
violence,and will be found no more;
Revelation 11:8 8 and their dead bodies will lie in the
street of the great city that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.
Luke 9:31 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his
departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Luke 13:33-34 33 Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and
tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish
away from Jerusalem.’ 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city
that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How
often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood
under her wings, and you were not willing!
Luke 18:3131 And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is
written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
Luke 24:18-20 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered
him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does
not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19 And he said to
them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man
who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and
how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and
crucified him.
Jeremiah 22:8 8 “‘And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his
neighbor, “Why has the Lord dealt thus with this great city?”
Lamentations 1:1 1 How lonely sits the city that
was full of people! How like a widow has she
become, she who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the
provinceshas become a slave.
Revelation 18:7-8 7 As she glorified herself and lived in
luxury,so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart
she says,‘I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I
shall never see.’8For this reason her plagues will come in a single
day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire;for
mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”
The Whore of Babylon is distinguished from the Beast, sits on the Beast, and
receives authority from the Beast and is destroyed by the 10 provinces of the Beast.
Revelation 17:3 3 And he carried me away in the Spirit into
a wilderness, and I saw a womansitting on a scarlet beast
that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and
ten horns.
Revelation 17:7 7 But the angel said to me, “Why do you
marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of
the beast with seven heads and ten horns that
carries her.
Revelation 13:11-18 11 Then I saw another beast rising out
of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its
presence, and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast,
whose mortal wound was healed. 13 It performs great signs, even making fire
come down from heaven to earth in front of people, 14 and by the signs that it
is allowed to work in the presence of the beast it deceives those who dwell on
earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the
sword and yet lived. 15 And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the
beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those
who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain. 16 Also it causes
all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be
marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell
unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its
name. 18 This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the
number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.
Revelation 17:16-17 16 And the ten horns that you saw, they
and the beast will hate the prostitute. They will
make her desolate and naked, and devour her flesh and burn her up with fire, 17
for God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one
mind and handing over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God
are fulfilled.
The Whore of Babylon must exist at the same time as the Beast/10 Kings-Italy,
Achaia, Asia, Syria, Egypt, Africa, Spain, Gaul, Britain, and Germany.
Revelation 17:7 7 But the angel said to me, “Why do you
marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of
the beast with seven heads and ten hornsthat carries her.
Revelation 17:12-14 12 And the ten horns
that you saw are ten kings who have
not yet received royal power, but they are to receive
authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. 13
These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the
beast. 14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for
he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen
and faithful.
God commands His people to flee from this city. Jerusalem is the only
city given the command to “Flee” in scripture.
Revelation 18:4 4 Then I heard another voice from heaven
saying,“Come out of her, my people, lest you take
part in her sins,lest you share in her plagues;
Matthew 24:15-20 15 “So when you see the abomination of
desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the
reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee
to the mountains. 17 Let the one who is on the housetop not go down to take
what is in his house, 18 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to
take his cloak. 19 And alas for women who are pregnant and for
those who are nursing infants in those days! 20 Pray that your
flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath.
Mark 13:14-18 14 “But when you see the abomination of
desolation standing where he ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
15 Let the one who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take
anything out, 16 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his
cloak. 17 And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing
infants in those days! 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter.
Luke 21:20-24 20 “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by
armies, then know that its desolation has come near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let
those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the
country enter it, 22 for these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is
written. 23 Alas for women who are pregnant and for those who
are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the
earth and wrath against this people. 24 They will fall by the edge of the sword
and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot
by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
The Whore of Babylon is punished for the exact reasons as Jerusalem
Babylon
Revelation 6:9-11 9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw
under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and
for the witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “O
Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge
and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then
they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the
number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete, who were
to be killed as they themselves had been
Revelation 18:20 20Rejoice over her, O heaven, and
you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you
against her!”
Revelation 18:2424And in her was found the blood
of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.”
Revelation 16:5-6 5 And I heard the angel in charge of the
waters say,“Just are you, O Holy One, who is and who was,for you brought these
judgments.6 For they have shed the blood of saints and
prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. It is what they deserve!”
Jerusalem
Matthew 23:31-36 31 Thus you witness against
yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of
your fathers. 33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you
to escape being sentenced to hell? 34 Therefore I send you
prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and
some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35 so
that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of
righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you
murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly, I say to you, all these
things will come upon this generation.
Luke 11:49-50 49 Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom
they will kill and persecute,’ 50 so that the blood of all the prophets, shed
from the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation,
Luke 23:28-31 28 But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your
children.29 For behold, the days are coming when they will say,
‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that
never nursed!’ 30 Then they will begin to say
to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ 31
For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is
dry?”
1 Thessalonians 2:14-16 14 For you, brothers, became
imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. For you suffered the same things from your own countrymen
as they did from the Jews, 15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets,
and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all mankind 16 by
hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved—so as
always to fill up the measure of their sins. But
wrath has come upon them at last!
John 19:6 6 When the chief priests and the officers saw him,
they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!”
Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt
in him.
John 19:15 15 They cried out, “Away with him, away with him,
crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The
chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.
Acts 2:22-23 22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of
Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs
that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite
plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless
men.
Acts 2:36 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for
certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom
you crucified.”
Acts 3:13-1513 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the
God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant
Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he
had decided to release him. 14 But you denied the Holy and
Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and you killed the Author of life, whom
God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.
Acts 5:30 30 The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.
Acts 7:52 52 Which of the prophets did your
fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the
coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,
The Whore of Babylon wears the Priestly Garments of the Old Covenant
Revelation 17:4-5 4 The woman was arrayed in purple
and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a
golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality.
5 And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the
great, mother of prostitutes and of earth's abominations.”
Exodus 28:36-38 36 “You shall make a plate of pure gold
and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, ‘Holy to the Lord.’
37 And you shall fasten it on the turban by a cord of blue. It
shall be on the front of the turban. 38 It shall be on Aaron's forehead, and Aaron shall bear any guilt from the
holy things that the people of Israel consecrate as their holy gifts. It shall regularly be on his forehead, that they may be
accepted before the Lord.
Exodus 25:2-4 2 “Speak to the people of Israel, that they
take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall
receive the contribution for me. 3 And this is the contribution that you shall
receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, 4 blue
and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats' hair,
Exodus 26:1 26,31,36 “Moreover, you shall make the
tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen and blue and purple
and scarlet yarns; you shall make them with cherubim skillfully
worked into them….. 31 “And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and
scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with
cherubim skillfully worked into it……. 36 “You shall make a screen for the
entrance of the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet
yarnsand fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework.
Exodus 27:16 16 For the gate of the court there shall be a
screen twenty cubits long, ofblue and purple and scarlet
yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework. It
shall have four pillars and with them four bases.
Exodus 28:1-2, 28:4-12,15, 17-23, 33 4 28 “Then bring near
to you Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the people of Israel,
to serve me as priests—Aaron and Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and
Ithamar. 2 And you shall make holy garments
for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty………These are the garments that
they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe,
a coat of checker work, a turban, and a sash. They shall make holy garmentsfor
Aaron your brother and his sons to serve me as priests. 5 They shall
receive gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined
linen.6 “And they shall make the ephod of gold, of
blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and of fine twined linen,
skillfully worked. 7 It shall have two shoulder pieces attached to its two
edges, so that it may be joined together. 8 And the skillfully woven band on it
shall be made like it and be of one piece with it, of gold, blue and
purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen. 9 You shall
take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, 10
six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the remaining six on the
other stone, in the order of their birth. 11 As a jeweler
engraves signets, so shall you engrave the two stones with the names of the
sons of Israel. You shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree. 12 And you
shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of
remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the
Lord on his two shoulders for remembrance……. 15 “You
shall make a breastpiece of judgment, in
skilled work. In the style of the ephod you shall make it—of
gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen
shall you make it…..17 You shall set in it four rows of stones. A row of
sardius, topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row; 18 and the second row an
emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond; 19 and the third row a jacinth, an agate,
and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They
shall be set in gold filigree. 21 There shall be twelve stones with their names
according to the names of the sons of Israel. They shall be like signets, each
engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes. 22 You shall
make for the breastpiece twisted chains like cords, of pure gold. 23 And you
shall make for the breastpiece two rings of gold, and put the two rings on the
two edges of the breastpiece.33 On its hem you
shall make pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet yarns,
around its hem, with bells of gold between them,
