Jesus and Absalom
Both were a Son of David

2 Samuel 3:1-3 1 There was a long war
between the house of Saul and the house of David. And David grew stronger and
stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker. 2 And sons were
born to David at Hebron: his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel; 3 and
his second, Chileab, of Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter
of Talmai king of Geshur.

Matthew 1:1 1 The book of the genealogy
of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Both were described “without blemish”

2 Samuel 14:25 25 Now in all Israel
there was no one so much to be praised for his handsome appearance as Absalom.
From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

1 Peter 1:19 19 but with the precious
blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
Both rode a donkey before their death

2 Samuel 18:9,14-15 9 And Absalom
happened to meet the servants of David. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the
mule went under the thick branches of a great oak….. 14 Joab said, “I will not
waste time like this with you.” And he took three javelins in his hand and thrust
them into the heart of Absalom while he was still alive in the oak. 15 And ten
young men, Joab's armor-bearers, surrounded Absalom and struck him and killed
him.

Matthew 21:1-5-9 5 “Say to the daughter
of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’” 6 The disciples went and did as
Jesus had directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them
their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8 Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on
the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9
And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!”
Both died on a type of Tree

Both were lifted up and drew men to themselves

Both had parts of the tree wrapped
around their head

a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand.
And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Both were pierced at their side

2 Samuel 18:14 14 Joab said, “I will
not waste time like this with you.” And he took three javelins in his hand and
thrust them into the heart of Absalom while he was still alive in the oak.

John 19:34 34 But one of the soldiers
pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.
Both their deaths resulted in “Good
News”

2 Samuel 18:25-26 25 The watchman
called out and told the king. And the king said, “If he is alone, there is news
in his mouth.” And he drew nearer and nearer. 26 The watchman saw another man
running. And the watchman called to the gate and said, “See, another man
running alone!” The king said, “He also brings news.”

1 Corinthians 1:17 17 For Christ did
not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent
wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
Both of them are associated
with Peace
·
Absalom’s name means “Father of Peace.”
·
Jesus is the “Prince of Peace.”
