2 Corinthians 5:1-10 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-56 Verse by Verse Commentary on the New Covenant Body for 70AD

2 Corinthians 5:1-10 5 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. 6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

Verse 1=Comfort in receiving the glorified body when a believer dies.

Verse 2-3=A putting on of the glorified body is to be covered from the nakedness of 66-70AD. See Revelation 3:18; 16:15 for support. The covering of nakedness was a fear relevant to the 1st century audience. To be naked is to be associated with Adam, Death, and Judgment.

Verse 4=Fear of dying without a new body means to be placed in Sheol. It is better to be alive with the body of Adam (natural) than to have no body in Sheol. However, there is a healthy desire to want the body of Christ (supernatural) because it swallows up all agents of death. The body of Adam brings only death. The body of Christ brings new life and accessibility to Heaven.

Verse 5= The Holy Spirit is a guarantee of a glorified body

Verse 6-7=The body of Adam cannot approach God. Faith helps us to believe that this is temporary to the Elect. We hold on to the promise through the Holy Spirit.

Verse 8= We rather have the body of Christ in order to approach God in a new way that was not offered in the Old Covenant. (***This is not about the resurrection process how the Church teaches it***).

Verse 9=Whether in Adam or Christ use your time wisely. See 1 Cor 7:17.

Verse 10=Description of judgment.

Revelation 3:18 English Standard Version 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see

Revelation 16:15 English Standard Version 15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”)

1 Corinthians 15:50-56 English Standard Version Mystery and Victory 50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

50-You cannot enter Heaven without a new body. The only body that has access to Heaven is the glorified body of Christ. Also, according to Daniel 7:17-18,21-22, living saints get a new body for the New Covenant. It is not sinless perfection like the dead saints, but it is sin resistant and spiritual death proof. However, it will allow us do works of righteousness. We have converted from Mt. Sinai to Mt. Zion, conditional promises to unconditional promises, a covenant of death to a covenant of life, etc.

51- The word mystery has to do with marital union/new covenant language. Not everyone will die to be affected by this change. Dead saints get glorified bodes while living saints get new covenant benefits with the obtainment of a glorified body in death.

52-53:The dead cannot be raised if they are in Heaven already. The dead are raised and given their new bodies at the end of the 7th seal, trumpet, bowl judgment.

54-56-Benefits of the new body/new covenant-The Elect has power over sin (Romans 6:12) and the law (Romans 4:15). This is not about Death and Hades getting tossed into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:13-15).
