The Glorified Body for 70AD-An Examination of Zechariah 12:8 and 1 Corinthians 15:5-58

What does it mean to have the Spiritual/glorified body of Christ

1.      The living saints are conformed to the image of Christ progressively in status while the dead saints are conformed completely in Heaven.

2.      We are able to perform works of righteousness and bear fruit in the Spiritual Body of Christ

3.      We are no longer condemned by the works of the Law. We are no longer in the Body of Adam.

4.      We have a close, accessible relationship to the Lord.(Face to Face-favorable status)

5.      We are adopted as God’s legal children.

6.      We are not helpless slaves to sin.

7.      We have the rewards outlined in Revelation.

8.      Dead saints go straight to Heaven with their glorified body, not Sheol.

9.      We never die spiritually.

1.      The living saints are conformed to the image of Christ progressively in status while the dead saints are conformed completely in Heaven.

·         1 Corinthians 15:51-52 English Standard Version 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

NOTE: What are we being changed into? Christ. The word is “like,” not an exact copy of Christ.

·         Zechariah 12:7-9 English Standard Version 7 “And the Lord will give salvation to the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not surpass that of Judah. 8 On that day the Lord will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, going before them. 9 And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

NOTE: Christ is also called the Son of David, God, and the angel of the Lord.

·         Luke 20:34-36 English Standard Version 34 And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, 36 for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection

NOTE: The angel of the Lord is an angel. We are called the sons of God, which is another name for angels in the Old Testament. See also: Mark 12:25, Matthew 22:30, John 11:25, and Romans 8:19.

·         Romans 8:29 English Standard Version 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers

·         1 John 3:2 English Standard Version 2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is

·         Romans 8:19-23 English Standard Version 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

·         Philippians 3:20-21 English Standard Version 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

·         2 Corinthians 5:2-5 English Standard Version 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

NOTE: Being found naked is a 70AD concern. See Revelation 3:17-18 and 16:13

·         2 Corinthians 3:18 English Standard Version 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit

·         2 Corinthians 3:18 English Standard Version 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit

·         Colossians 3:10-12 English Standard Version 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. 12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience

·         2 Peter 1:4 English Standard Version 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

·         Ephesians 4:24 English Standard Version 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

2.      We are able to perform works of righteousness and bear fruit in the Spiritual Body of Christ

·         Romans 6:18 English Standard Version 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness

·         Romans 6:22 English Standard Version 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.

·         2 Corinthians 5:21 English Standard Version 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

·         Galatians 5:5 English Standard Version 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.

·         Romans 7:4-6 English Standard Version 4 Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. 5 For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. 6 But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

·         Malachi 3:3-4 English Standard Version 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord.4 Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years.

3.      We are no longer condemned by the works of the Law. We are no longer in the Body of Adam.

·         Romans 3:20 English Standard Version 20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

·         Romans 4:15 English Standard Version 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.

·         Romans 7:8 English Standard Version 8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead.

·         Romans 7:24 English Standard Version 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

·         Romans 8:2-3 English Standard Version 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh

·         1 Corinthians 7:22 English Standard Version 22 For he who was called in the Lord as a bondservant is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a bondservant of Christ.

·         1 Corinthians 15:56 English Standard Version 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

NOTE: This is not the End of History. There is no mention of Hades and Death getting tossed into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:14-15). This is why you do not see “ Sin and the Law” tossed into the Lake of Fire. This passage simply states that the Power of Sin and the Law-Agents of Death can no longer hurt the believer of the New Covenant- Agent of New Life.

4.      We have a close, accessible relationship to the Lord.(Face to Face-favorable status)

·         1 Corinthians 13:12-13 English Standard Version 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love

·         Revelation 22:4 English Standard Version 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

·         Matthew 5:8 English Standard Version 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

·         Psalm 17:15 English Standard Version 15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.

NOTE: To be the righteousness of God, is to be God’s treasured possession. See Revelation 21.

5.      We are adopted as God’s legal children.

·         Ephesians 1:5 English Standard Version 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will

·         2 Corinthians 6:18 English Standard Version 18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

·         Galatians 4:4-5 English Standard Version 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

6        . We are not helpless slaves to sin.

·         Romans 6:6 English Standard Version 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin

·         Romans 6:11 English Standard Version 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

·         Romans 6:13-14 English Standard 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

7.      We have the rewards outlined in Revelation.

NOTE: To the living saints, we experience these rewards partially while the dead saints experience these rewards fully.

·         Gift #1 uses figurative language to describe the accessibility of God’s presence in Heaven. To eat the fruits of Christ’s work on the Cross/the Tree of Life (Rev 2:7)

·         Gift#2 is the Crown of Life given to the Martyr (Rev 2:10-11)

·         Gift #3 and 4: Hidden manna from Heaven and a white stone (Pearl?) with an unknown new name. (Rev 2:17)

·         Gift #5 is an invitation to co-reign with Christ in Heaven. (Rev 2:26)

·         Gift #6 is Christ offering himself as a gift to Martyrs-The Morning Star. (Rev 2:28)

·         Gift #7. This gift consisted of being clothed in Christ’s righteousness and never being blotted out of the Book of Life. (Rev 3:5)

·         Gift #8 consists of becoming a pillar in the Heavenly Temple of God and receiving a new name in the New Jerusalem. (Rev 3:12-13)

·         Gift #9 consisted of the ability to sit on Christ’s throne (Rev 3:21)

8.      Dead saints go straight to Heaven with their glorified body, not Sheol.

·         1 Corinthians 15:50-58 English Standard Version 50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

NOTE: You cannot inherit the Kingdom of God or Heaven without a New Covenant Body. You cannot inherit a New Covenant Kingdom with an Old Covenant Body.

·         Daniel 7:17-18 English Standard Version 17 ‘These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth. 18 But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, forever and ever.’

·         Daniel 7:21-22 English Standard Version 21 As I looked, this horn made war with the saints and prevailed over them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom

9.      We never die spiritually.

·         John 11:25 English Standard Version 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

NOTE: The Resurrection is a Two-Fold Effect on Spiritual Life and Death.

***********************************************************************

Colossians 3:4 English Standard Version 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. See 2 Thessalonians 2:8 and Titus 2:11-14.

2 Thessalonians 2:8 English Standard Version 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.

Titus 2:11-14 English Standard Version 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

NOTE: The appearance of Christ leads to the removal of the Lawless One and creating a people that are zealous for good works.
